A Russian General Killed in Moscow Blast, Officials Report.
Investigative Source
A senior Russian general has been declared dead following an explosion in Moscow, according to an investigative body.
The attack happened on Monday morning when an IED planted beneath a vehicle was set off, causing the death of Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov.
Sarvarov served as the head of the armed forces' operational training department.
The committee indicated that one theory under investigation involves the alleged involvement of Ukrainian intelligence services. To date, Ukraine has not issued a comment.
Scene of the Blast
Officials have been sent to the location, which is understood to be in a southerly district of the capital.
Accounts suggest the explosion took place in a car park close to a residential building.
Series of Assaults
Since the start of the full-scale conflict in Ukraine, a string of Russian military personnel have been subjected to assaults within Moscow.
This latest event follows other high-profile incidents, such as:
- General Yaroslav Moskalik was died in a automobile blast in Moscow earlier this year.
- General Igor Kirillov perished in late 2024 when a explosive placed on a scooter was triggered from afar.
While a informant earlier attributed Kirillov's death to Ukraine's security service, such assertions are rarely publicly admitted as a matter of standard practice.
The war has been marked by covert operations extending into the center of the Russian capital.
The examination into General Sarvarov's death continues to be ongoing.
