Arne Slot Insists He Is Safe and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Defeat

The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was expected for concerns to be asked about his position after a further convincing defeat versus the Dutch champions.

The Reds endured their ninth defeat in 12 games, marking the team's poorest streak after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.

They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a difficult evening at their home ground.

“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I've received significant support from the top,” Slot stated.

“It would be nice to change things and earn three points obviously but when you're coaching a team and struggling then it's expected that doubts arise.”

He continued, “I am OK with my situation. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it's necessary that we turned it around.”

Talks with The Board

When asked to expand on his dialogues with the team officials, the head coach said:

“We talk a lot. They are helpful to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me every single minute each day to say they trust me.”

He added, “In the normal exchanges I feel the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them after this match yet so we'll see.”

Recurring Issues and Player Reaction

The manager expressed regret over recurring weaknesses from his team in their European loss, specifically wasted chances and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the club’s predicament.

“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder remarked.

“It’s just not good enough. I don't need to wait to think about it. I’m past getting mad internally. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”

He went on, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool for years.”

“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a spell of this nature with outcomes so bad.”

Jones finished, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And until it is taken away, we will always compete.”

“We will attempt to bring this squad return to the top, prove once more what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the best team in the planet.”

“However currently, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
