Line of Duty Confirmed for 7th Season on the British Broadcaster
The beloved crime series AC-12 will make a comeback for its 7th installment, confirmed by the BBC.
A brand new six-part series written by Jed Mercurio will begin filming in Northern Ireland in the coming months, as confirmed by the network.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the return, stating she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar added, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together next year."
The last season wrapped up in recent years with a finale that attracted more than 17 million audience members. Speculation about a new season have been circulating for some time, but confirmation only came this week.
Fresh Obstacles for AC-12
The seventh season begins with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by production details.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue working to combat corruption within the law enforcement.
Their work "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, these officers are assigned their "most delicate case to date."
Fresh Face and Complex Case
A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer known for busts of criminal networks, faces allegations of abusing his position to act as a offender.
However, his case could be a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still operating in the background, plot details suggested.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator said: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."
"We're privileged to have had countless fans track the developments of the unit over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be coming back for a new season."
He added: "Misconduct in this country was thought to be over while the series was not airing, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."
Cast Reactions
The Scottish actor called appearing in the series as "a job of a lifetime".
"Not only the program's popularity but the colleagues I've worked with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he said.
The Nottingham-born actress stated: "Obviously I'm so excited the show is back! Eager to work with the creator, Compston and Dunbar again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
The veteran actor noted: "As we count down the AC-12 days of Christmas, how exciting it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming soon."
"Delighted with the news and anticipating those unexpected plot developments."
