Patriots Equal Longest Victory Run Since Brady Years with Triumph Over New York Jets
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson has tallied five scores in the present year
The New England Patriots matched their top unbeaten stretch from the Tom Brady period as they beat division opponents the Jets 27-14 in professional football
Rookie Henderson was the standout with three touchdowns as the Patriots claimed an eighth straight win for the first time since legendary quarterback Brady's final season with the team in the 2019 season
QB Maye threw for 281 passing yards and a touchdown, connecting on 25 passes from 34 throws
The triumph extends the Patriots advantage at the top of the division as they moved to nine victories against two losses, with the Jets bottom after dropping to two wins and eight losses
The opposing team had scored first at their home field with quarterback Justin Fields scoring a five-yard touchdown to finish the New York's initial series
But the Patriots responded in the second period as the rookie ran in two seven-yard TDs before the ball carrier grabbed a reception from Maye at the back of the end zone halfway into the third period to push the score to 21-7
"That was a key occasion for him stepping up, and it's been excellent for him to keep earning playing time," Maye said of Henderson. "He desires to be excellent."
Fields threw to John Metchie in the latter part of the third quarter to reduce the lead for the Jets but Borregales booted a two field goals in the final period as the home side closed out the win
